About Chuck Lentz

I am an experienced employment lawyer who has represented clients in cases all around the country in the years since I was first admitted to practice in 1985.  Just as importantly, though, I am a lawyer who is committed to working with clients to help their businesses do what can be done to prevent the need to pay for the defense of formal claims brought by current or former employees.  Similarly, if you are an individual who is faced with problems on the job or, perhaps, with making decisions about entering or leaving employment, you may wish to consult with a lawyer for advice and to learn more about your situation.  I am committed to  giving clients not only the best legal advice possible, but the best advice I can about what makes sense for them personally and for their business or organization.

Like most good employment lawyers, I have worked with people who are responsible for employee relations -- or Human Resources -- at many different companies.  In the past, I have been a member of the Society of Human Resource Managers (SHRM) and its local counterpart, the Twin Cities Human Resources Association (TCHRA).  I have talked with members of the Human Resource Professionals of Minnesota.  I was one of the founding members of the Minnesota Management Attorneys Association.  Not only am I comfortable in a courtroom or a judge’s chambers, but I am comfortable in a board or conference room talking about the business and art of  managing employee relations.  When I advise individuals, I am equipped to give them the benefit of my experience in working with the upper management of many different businesses and organizations over the years.

I was born in January, 1952, in Milwaukee.  In 1985, when I was admitted to the bar, I was 33 years old.  I did not grow up in the law.  In the years before entering law school, I worked at a variety of jobs, both blue collar and white collar, and got some “seasoning” that I think is sometimes missing in people who have never known any path other than school, summer jobs, and the life of a lawyer.  It is true that I have now practiced law for more than 24 years, and my experience at two large law firms has given me the skills of an experienced lawyer, but I still understand what it means to work for wages or in a middle management role and can draw on this background when advising managers, supervisors, executives and individual employees.

As a lawyer, I am used to directing action, and making specific recommendations.  But, I also pride myself on my listening skills.  I have a strong desire to know my clients and to know their business.  For me, this is the only way to practice law.
